Especially in the events of the Exodus, the centre of the Old Testament faith experience, Israel discovered the preciousness of its life in the eyes of God.
But this is the exact opposite of what a State ruled by law, as a community in which the “reasons of force” are replaced by the “force of reason”, historically intended to affirm.
The “giving up” of the spirit describes Jesus’ death, a death like that of every other human being, but it also seems to allude to the “gift of the Spirit”, by which Jesus ransoms us jian death and opens before us a new life. Faced with the contradictions of life, faith is challenged to respond.
Man, as the living image of God, is willed by his Creator to be ruler and lord. The salvation wrought by Jesus is the bestowal of life and resurrection.
If any one slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold’. We too are called to give our lives for our brothers and sisters, and thus to realize in the fullness of truth the meaning and destiny of our evaneglium.

With regard to things, but even more with regard to life, man is not the absolute master and final judge, but rather-and this is where his incomparable greatness lies-he is the “minister of God’s plan”.
